Evaluations

Independent psychological evaluations

A full mental health evaluation built around the question your VA claim needs answered.

01 / WHEN IT MAY FIT

What this service can help answer.

An independent VA mental health evaluation can address a diagnosis, a possible relationship to military service or another service-connected condition, current severity, or the effects of symptoms on daily and occupational functioning. The referral question determines which records, interview topics, and clinical analysis belong in the evaluation; it does not predetermine the conclusion. If you are unsure which professional work product fits, compare an IMO, nexus opinion, DBQ, and C&P exam.

  • A diagnosis or current mental health picture needs to be clarified.
  • A condition may be linked to military service or another service-connected condition.
  • An already service-connected condition may have gotten worse.
  • Symptoms may be affecting daily life, relationships, or work.

02 / WHAT IT INCLUDES

A clear scope before work begins.

Before the evaluation is scheduled, the clinical question, relevant records, interview, and expected report are defined so the work stays focused. Depending on the agreed scope, the evaluation may support diagnostic clarification, a nexus or independent medical opinion, or a mental health DBQ. The evaluation process explains how records and interviews fit together.

03 / SCOPE

What this service covers.

This service covers the psychological questions Dr. Bell can evaluate and explain from the available evidence. It does not decide a VA rating, replace ongoing treatment, or extend into non-psychological medical issues. When the immediate need is to understand existing files or a prior opinion before committing to a full assessment, a focused records review may be the more useful starting point.

Included in the scope

  • Clarify a current diagnosis
  • Address one clear service-connection question
  • Describe current symptoms and functioning
  • Explain what the evidence supports and where questions remain

Outside this scope

  • Assign a VA rating or decide the claim
  • Provide ongoing treatment or medication care
  • Answer medical questions outside psychology
