Claims education

Prepare for a mental health C&P exam

Good preparation helps you give an accurate picture. It is not about memorizing answers or acting out your worst day.

01 / KNOW THIS FIRST

Confirm the date, time, and place.

Review the main timeline.

Think about symptom patterns and daily effects.

Be honest about good days, bad days, and uncertainty.

02 / HOW A PSYCHOLOGIST THINKS ABOUT IT

Know why you are there.

Read the appointment notice. It may show the condition or claim question. If you do not know, it is fine to ask at the start.

Use simple examples.

Think about what symptoms change at home, with other people, and at work. Do not memorize rating words.

  • How often does it happen?
  • How long does it last?
  • What do you stop doing?
  • What help do you need?
  • What is different on a better day?

Make room for hard topics.

You can tell the examiner when a topic is hard. You may ask for a short pause. You can also say when you do not remember or are not sure.
